Please let me know which name brand you prefer for Laptop. My current HP is dying or windows updates is doing it.

I wish I can buy a good laptop and switch the SSD with my own and run Linux on it. But it cannot be done.

PURE CONTROL on Windows.

What do you use it for? I don't game, so if it is Windows, then I like Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 12/Gen 11 or the Dell XPS 13. Apple MacBook Air otherwise.

I used Dell laptops for years but most recently switched to Asus for better durability (metal case).
Not gaming either.

Not gaming. Just Docs, web meeting and listen to music. Play HD movies.

So around 400- 650 total. Hopefully lasts 5 years.
My USB ports are dying and loading is slow - ( thanks windows updates).

I have several old Dell Laptops but if I can install Linux it would be great but I read it is impossible for Dell because of some CHIP set on the MB.

I have two laptops, both about 10 years old, a Sony, and a Toshiba. I replaced the hard drives with 480gb SSD's and installed LinuxMint. They were given to me when a client upgraded. You can install LinuxMint from either a cd or usb stick and run it without affecting your current operating system. If you are happy with the results you can overwrite all or part of your current system.

I've never met a Dell that couldn't run Linux. 🤷‍♂️ I'm not sure why I'm not running into these problems you guys are having
I looked on line it was a model that had issues. I guess Lemmy hates me. Odd as IIRC at the time Dell actually sold Linux boxes, you would figure their line up with be good with it.
