Yea, casino's don't make that much off tourneys compared to cash games, plus a game can run pretty long, not worth it for them.
That is the reason I stopped playing poker tournaments at casinos. For the last 5 years I have been playing them on online poker sites and have cashed about $3000 playing low $ buy ins from $2 to $10. However, in the last 2 years our ahole premier Ford changed the rules allowing licences to only 6 poker sites that Ontario residents can play and the number of available players is at a minimum compared to previous years where up to a 100 poker sites were available of which many were 100% legit.

tournament poker in Ontario Casinos has all but disappeared....Casino Niagara holds some but its too long a drive for me.....i used to enjoy the tournaments held in Casino Brantford..but they disbanded them a long time ago
Woodbine hosted a scaled down version of a WSOP circuit event in the spring, with a full event most likely coming next year. I also hear that Pickering will be hosting a good sized buy in tournament, and both Woodbine and Pickering will have daily sit n go's. The CNE also has a tournament every year with a decent pay out for 1st.

They still make around 10 to 15% of the prize pool from tournaments. One of the main problems is that a lot of the experienced dealers have moved on to other jobs since covid, or need to be retrained. Also, the casinos were unsure of the interest for tournaments, but the Woodbine event sold out so they're making plans to bring in more.

aug13 and 20..12/30 pm
250$ freeze out...210$ to prize pool....so rake is about 16%
20 thousand starting stack
blinds every20 min
starting at 100/200
then 200/400
and so on..adding 200 to each level and the corresponding BB ante
structure is fast so you have to get busy early.....no sitting around...lol

They're doing a slightly larger buy-in ($375?) the following week as well. I'll probably be playing the WSOP-C at Playground in Montreal.

Where is this tournament described above?
CNE?
Woodbine?

Where did you find the Blind Schedule?
I looked at the website and there are very few details about the tournament.
$20,000 starting stack sounds like a lot, but if blinds quickly escalate to $1,000/$2,000 with BB ante, the everyone is quickly short-stacked

Also, have you ever played the NL cash games? With a 10% rake, it seems like much of the money would get raked off fairly quickly, leaving only the house as a winner at the end of the night.

I wonder how long it takes to complete the tournament? I only good for about 3 hrs. Many online poker tournaments can take up to 5 hrs.

OK , I found some info on Poker Atlas about the Aug 13, 2024 tournament at Pickering Casino

IF it's accurate, there are 30 blind levels and it should take about 12 hours to complete the tournament (including breaks)

Thanks, last time I went I placed 11th or 12th in a $280 buy in and won like $850 on top of the buy in. That was a few years ago and have been wanting to go back since. At least there are closer options now.

Port Perry had some good tourneys too pre covid but my results there were less than spectacular.

I think there will be daily 1 table sit n go's at offered wood/pick. They can sometimes last 4-5 hours though.

Yesterday's $250 tournament at Pickering sold all 90 seats and had 30 alternates as well, building the prize pool to just over $25k. The top 12 cashed with 1st taking $7k and change. I busted out before 2nd break with lots of players left.

I might try the $575 in 2 weeks just for the 30 minute blind levels, instead of the 20 minutes in the $250.

yep the longer blinds suit TAGs like me lol......but 575$ is a little bit of a reach for me.....too bad the 250$ is 20 min blinds....with the levels such as they are....a little to fast....was that the case with you?......those Brantford tourneys were 20 minutes but there were extra blind levels more than Pickering if i remember right

The blinds did go up a bit too fast for me but overall I still had fun, even though it cost me $255, lol. Still not sure if I'll play the $575 given my results in the previous tournament. I'll have to see how I do in the next week or so.

Bad luck at the casino poker tables can be really frustrating. You might have a great hand, like pocket aces, but still lose because of a lucky card on the flop. Even when you play well, sometimes the cards just don’t go your way. It feels like no matter what you do, you can’t catch a break.

Even the best players lose hands. Poker is about playing the long game, so don’t let one bad hand ruin your mood. Keep playing smart, and remember luck can change.

speaking of pocket aces....i for one never limp in with this hand....if its folded to me i raise....if someone does raise and gets a call...i will reraise....you have to isolate and get into the flop with 1 or only 2 players........limping on a passive table is a recipe for disaster because in a multi way pot your AA shrivels up in value....just my 2 cents
