He was going to be captain at some point so why not now.

What they really should do is remove the A from Marner. Let him focus on just hockey.
Keep Tavares and Rielly as Alternates and after next year find a new alternate to replace Tavares.
Muzzin would have been a good Alternate in his prime as a Leaf.
He basically carried Holl.

One play with Marner really etched in my mind. Leafs score and Marner was in front of the net and screened the goalie.
As every other player was racing to the goal scorer for a group hug Marner lingered in front of the net like he's having a look at me moment to make sure everyone knew it was him who screened the goalie. I certainly noticed it was him.

Leafs are expected to name Auston Matthews Captain on Wednesday.
Well that will solve all the Leafs problems. They are guaranteed to win the cup now.

I don't think having the C will faze AM34 in the least bit. He comes across as a guy who doesn't give a shit about what people say and think. JT on the other hand took things personally. He's too nice of a guy. Giving him the A is a smart move.

Recently, former Leafs blue liner Carlo C. roasted the “implementation” of the Shanaplan…spending so much money on forwards without routinely developing young “stud” defensemen.

Half the NHL 32 teams make the playoffs. So making the playoffs is no big deal.
The last time the Leafs won the Stanley Cup was in 1967 when the league had just 6 teams. As a matter of fact, the wealthiest and most supported team has not even made the finals since then. That is the disgraceful fact.
