I prefer pesto to tomato sauce, I make both basil and black olive pesto. With the later you'll be sweating out the garlic for days. lol

I enjoy pesto but try with pasta with no sauce

Fry some sausage and garlic and mushroom in olive oil with parsely for the topping

People don't realize how easy it is to make salad dressing in the moment. I keep a selection of olive oils and vinegars wirh various flavorings. Usually just combine one with a plain version of the other. Or if doing the plain version just add some garlic powder, lemon pepper, ground oregano to taste and a quick wisk. I bought a couple of tiny lab beakers with measurements on them for this. You need very little to add flavor. And the store bought is filled with fat and chemicals.

I've said this to friends... It's so easy to make different salad dressings with things that you have on hand. I like to make honey dijon dressing. It's just olive oil, honey, dijon mustard, and maybe a little apple cider vinegar. 🙂

homemade cooking gets the chemicals out with
your own unique taste but it has to be easy

homemade ketchup

canned crushed tomato and vinegar to taste so start light on the vinegar

spices of your choice

i avoid sugar

I scoup out zucchini pulp then add

bring to boil then simmer for 20

where can you buy zucchini ketchup?

You can pasterize so it lasts longer by putting it in a jar inserted in boiling water

pasta sauce

same thing but no vinegar and no pasteurizing

but you can add meat and veggies and cook longer if no sugar added to get rid of canned taste

stores in fridge for over a week

I don't know if I've become too sensitive to tomatoes, but I find the canned ones to be acidic. I know add a tiny bit of baking soda and it removes the acidity without adding sugar.

Kale chips

put on olive oil and parmesan cheese, chili powder smoked paprika then bake at 300% for 20

Not as easy as a bag of potato chips but you have gone from total junk food to
a very healthy leafy green chip

Energy balls are very easy quick and healthy and very cheap.

Why buy the way more expensive less healthy version of energy bars?

Mix nut butter and something to hold it together IE rolled oats , cooked wild rice, quinoa flakes, buckwheat etc then add whatever .

Banana instead of nut butter

  • High protein, high fiber, and low carb. It’s basically the unicorn of alternative flour (no offense, almond flour!).
  • Diet-friendly. Without even trying, it’s a fantastic keto and gluten-free flour swap.
  • Naturally cakey texture. Using coconut flour in place of other flours gives any baked good a gorgeous crumb and tender, cake-like texture.
  • No coconut flavor. This may be hard to believe, considering it’s literally made out of coconuts, but yes, you won’t be able to taste the coconut flavor at all.

Some ideas are : dates, nuts, cranberries, vanilla, honey, seeds, muesli, pure cacoa powder (chocolate), protein powder, cinnamon, lemon juice, banana etc

then roll in balls ( then freeze on a pan if you wanna so they do stick) then fill up freezer bags with a variety that lasts for months

Tried it

Buy kale in bag as stems are removed

Put on olive oil and smoked paprika

Not exactly chips as they crumble but very tasty and kale is very healthy with no calories

Bagged chips are total junk
so are alternative chips like apple, blue corn etc
which are very expensive

Popcorn is healthy and quick when done right

Put popcorn in paper bag then micro until popping stops

  1. Add oil, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, onion powder, garlic powder and salt to the bag over the popped popcorn. Fold the top of the bag, hold closed and shake to coat. Tastes like everything bagel
2 Add oil and nutritional yeast then shake bag.
Nutritional yeast is non active yeast so there are no digestive issues but very healthy.
It has a chessy crunchy taste

Beware of hard kernals that will chip teeth. Shaking bag will send kernals to the bottom
and remember to not chew hard as it is unnecessary and will stop chipping

Homemade guacamole is the best . Very tasty and healthy and filling

Avacados are full of monounsaturated fats.

“These are healthy fats that play an important role in the structure and function of our brain and other cell membranes throughout the body,”

I use tomato, lime juice, hot peppers, cilantro, onion

Not as easy as store bought but way cheaper and tastier
so when I make it I make enough for a few days then it goes bad

As it oxidizes quickly cover it in water to stop oxidization then store in fridge
then scoup some out when you want some or if it does turn brown just scrap it off

To keep it heathiest instead of crackers to dip it is common to use veggies
but also use cooked shrimp or chicken, apples, green beans, zucchinni ,
beef jerky or just eat a spoonful of it

An elementary school teacher is about to have a bottle of apple cider for his lunch, when one of his student comes running up to him.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Jokes/?f=flair_name:"Long"
"Would you mind pouring that bottle of cider into a bowl?" asks the little girl. "I got a thorn in my finger at recess."

Confused, the teacher pours the cider into a bowl. The girl dips her hand into the cider, and screams. "Ouch! The cider is making it worse!"

"Why would you think dipping your hand into apple cider would make the pain go away?" asks the teacher.

"Because," says the girl, "last weekend, when my sister came home from college, I overheard her saying that whenever she gets a prick in her hand, she can't wait to get it in cider!"

GTA & Thereabouts...
I'm watching this thread. Trying not to be sexist, but my wife is not the best cook... She keeps focusing on Vegan and frustratingly adlibs and substitutes ingredients in recipes. As such, I'm trying to learn myself, but I get frustrated with my limited time available as I get home late. I'm a decent short-order cook and make great bacon and egg type breakfasts during the weekend.

Cooking (and dining etiquette) should be taught in schools. My senior citizen parents are Rock Stars when it comes to budget-following cooking. It is simple but effective. Mom repurposes leftovers and ingredients into amazing meals. Once retired, my Dad really took on a cooking role as well (which is inspiring). He's a BBQ savage; even in the Winter. My luxurious (snobby model) Napoleon BBQ hasn't been fired-up in years.

Was not into making bread as too much work until I tried yogurt bread

I use my strained home made Yogurt or greek yogurt for ease with vanilla for taste
and whole wheat or rye flour , too much baking powder (not soda) leaves a bad taste but it is really easy just mix until sticky with baking powder and salt then bake until spongy . For clean up ease i use parchment paper in the pan

bread is soft and tangy

Made a sample batch of scones instead of loaf . Used Try coconut flour for high protein low carb with vanilla greek yogurt and baking powder. Threw in some nuts and cinnamon and dates at 350 for 30

Baking soda should work as well powder and so should no powder or soda as they are optional in pancakes. The soda or powder makes air bubbles so it does rise a bit and fluffier. No baking soda or powder will make bread denser

Nutritional yeast is deactivated yeast that has a chessy crunchy taste.

Loaded with B vitamins, proteins, and other vitamins and minerals, nutritional yeast can fit into any diet because it is deactivated yeast.

It comes flavored or not, fortified or not

  • As a seasoning in pasta or a salad
  • On your popcorn
  • In a smoothie
  • To thicken your favorite sauces
  • As a vegan alternative to cheese sauce
  • To add an umami flavoring in soups and stews
  • As a dough relaxer when making homemade noodles
  • As a thickener to mashed potatoes or mashed cauliflower
  • To add additional taste to scrambled eggs
  • Sprinkled on pasta as an alternative to Parmesan cheese

homemade yogurt has no additives and more active, living bacteria known as probiotics, which can help keep the intestines healthy.

You can use grass fed milk or goats milk even almond, coconut, hemp milk etc

bring milk to boil

more fat content in milk the thicker the yogurt

cool to 80%

add yogurt powder from health food store but follow directions

you can add chia seeds as they turn into a pudding texture

sit in dark place for 24 hours

add fruit and nuts

Greek yogurt is the same as regular yogurt but made thicker by straining to remove the excess watery whey, creating a thicker, more protein-dense product.
Save a bit of the yoghurt (2tbsp) from your last batch and use that as the starter for the next batch, instead of the yoghurt powder.

Each time you reuse it loses nutritional value

the powder is cheap and easier to use

Why will it lose nutritional value to save a couple of tbsp to mix it into the milk and form a whole new bowl of yoghurt? The nutrition comes from the milk.

I meant it loses its bacterial culture not the nutrition from milk
