North York Women’s Shelter actively supports the rights of women and children to build lives free of violence by providing non-judgemental safe shelter, advocacy, and a range of programs & services including 24-hour crisis support.

To provide a safe refuge, counselling, support and advocacy for women and their children who are fleeing violence; while also working towards a more equal society where the inherent value of all women is recognized and celebrated.

Shelters for women offer short-term accommodation along with other supports, such as counselling, meals, recreation and emergency transportation. Some shelters also provide longer-term accommodation. Drop-in centres offer social and recreational activities, snacks, information and support and in some cases counselling.

Harmony House is a second-stage shelter for women and their children who are survivors of violence. We provide a transitional period from crisis shelter services to independent living in the community. At Harmony House we provide safe and affordable housing up to one year along with programs of individual and group support, accompaniment, advocacy, and referral.

Women's shelters are places where women (and their children) can go to stay, and are typically for women fleeing domestic violence from their partners or spouses. Women's shelters offer safe, temporary housing and usually other services to enable a return to independent living such as counselling and referrals to community resources.

Victims and survivors of physical, sexual, emotional, or financial abuse can find emergency shelter and housing, health care, legal services, emotional support, counselling, system navigation services, and accompaniment services for interviews or appointments. Intervention and prevention services often focus on abuse in the home or workplace, sexual assault, violent crime, or human trafficking.
